PDF Viewer for Mac Universal Purchase

Between October 2019 and December 2020, PDF Viewer for iOS and PDF Viewer for Mac were available as separate items on the App Store. This meant the apps needed to be downloaded separately on iOS and Mac. We wanted a single subscription to work across iOS and Mac, so added the ability to share your subscription between iOS and Mac by signing into the same iCloud account on your iOS device and Mac. If you weren’t signed into the same iCloud account there was a possibility you could accidentally purchase a subscription on both iOS and Mac. This was the best we could do with the options Apple provided in 2019.
Apple now offers us the ability to provide PDF Viewer on both iOS and Mac as a single item on the App Store. Apple calls this ‘universal purchase’, despite PDF Viewer being free to download. We’ve decided to adopt universal purchase to make the arrangement simpler for everyone. This applies from PDF Viewer 5.1 for Mac onwards. Now if you download PDF Viewer on either iOS or Mac, it will automatically show up in your list of purchased apps on the other platform. Apple now handles sharing the subscription between PDF Viewer for iOS and PDF Viewer for Mac, so there is no need to use the same iCloud account and no chance of accidentally subscribing twice as long as you use the same App Store account on all your devices.

There is no change to PDF Viewer for iOS so you’ll continue to receive updates from the App Store on iPad and iPhone.

There is no change to PDF Viewer for iOS so your subscription will keep working as before.
Migrating a subscription purchased in the old version of PDF Viewer for Mac
If you have a subscription in the old version of the Mac app, you will continue to have access to Pro features until that subscription expires. This subscription can sync through iCloud to the new version of PDF Viewer for Mac or to PDF Viewer for iOS. However this subscription will not auto-renew. When your old subscription expires you can subscribe again in the new version of PDF Viewer.
We recommend using the new version of PDF Viewer for Mac to benefit from new features and enhancements. If you have any issues with your subscription being unlocked in the new Mac app or on iOS then you should download the old version once again and opening it once to validate your subscription or contact us for help.
